If you want to introduce your family to the outdoor life, there are some fantastic farms and activity centres in France that provide a real taste of rural life. Here are just a few:
Feather Down Farms are the ultimate in glamping. Families stay in a huge canvas tent fitted with two bedrooms and a living room including a wooden floor, table, chairs, wood burning stove, fully equipped kitchen area and cute cupboard bed. Made of thick, protective canvas, the tents keep the warmth in without shutting out the sounds of nature. Visitors can choose from sites on six hand-picked farms across France and relax in the heart of nature while the children make friends with all the farm animals.
If you’ve always wanted to go on an American ranch holiday, but don’t want to travel too far, then Reinhill Farm is a perfect alternative. Chill out in fully equipped luxury safari lodge style tents with gorgeously comfy beds in the heart of the Suisse Normandy National Park and spend the days riding out on the American quarter horses or trying out the canoeing, bike riding, hiking and many more outdoor activities. Riding lessons are available and there are horses to suit all abilities - or guests can even bring their own!
Alternatively, why not rent a log cabin in the grounds of La Bergerie farm at Le Val des Vignes, overlooking the gorgeous Ource valley, and enjoy the tranquility of the Champagne region with its vineyards, woodland and meadows. Located just outside the pretty village of Essoyes, the log cabins are set in five hectares of woodland and are fully equipped with two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and spacious lounge overlooking the valley. Guests are welcome to join in the farm activities and meet the sheep, rabbits, hens, pony and ducks. There is also a swimming pool and sauna.
